Activities, May 2019

WEDNESDAY, MAY 1 – Stop by and pick up your copy of the May newsletter so you know what is going on this month.    May is Older Americans Month, with the theme “Connect, Create, Contribute”.  Seniors are connecting, creating and contributing, by participating in evidence based programs that promote good health and personal enrichment.   We invite everyone to come and visit us during May to see the various ways the seniors are connecting with each other.  Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.    To kick off Older Americans Month we will be entertained with a puppet show about senior citizens.    The Bridge group will meet at 12:00 PM followed by the card party at 1:00 PM for some fun and socialization.  And they could use some more card and bridge players. 

           THURSDAY, MAY 2–Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.  Wii Bowling and table games will be available throughout the day also.   Debbie will be available to check blood pressure and weights from 9 til 11 AM.  Chair Massages will be offered for a fee.  Kings in the Corner starts at 9:30. The chair YOGA class will start at 10:30 AM.  The art class meets at 12:00 PM.  Hand and Foot card game begins at 12:00 noon. 

          FRIDAY, MAY 3 – Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.  Those who signed up to go shopping at Eastern Market the van will leave at 9:00 AM then stop at Red Lobster for lunch.  In preparation for the upcoming Kentucky Derby we will race our horses today.   May the best horse win!  We encourage all the ladies to wear their fancy hats to the races and maybe win a prize!                                                   

          MONDAY, MAY 6 –The shoppers will be heading to the Galleria for the latest fashions.   Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.  Wii and table games will be available throughout the day.  Today is game day so be prepared to do some thinking.   Jane Thomas’s drawing class meets after lunch from 1:00 to 2:30 PM.

TUESDAY, MAY 7–Aerobics will be held in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.  Today is Hobby Day, so if you have a hobby that you would like to share with everyone, please bring it in and tell us all about it.  Table games will be available throughout the day.  Bryan from Senior Life will present a program on “Allergies versus Cold”.  We will be celebrating all the May birthdays with cake.  After lunch Doug will be available to assist with computer issues.  Pinochle players meet at 12:00 PM. 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 8 – Aerobics will be held in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.  Mary Ellen will have a large selection of ceramic pieces to paint.  Jean Gabsewics dietician, will present a nutritional program on “Understanding the new food labels”. The bridge club meets at noon. We are looking for some more bridge players, so if you would like to meet new friends and have an afternoon of relaxing fun playing cards, come on in and try your luck.   Wii and table games will be available throughout the day also. 

THURSDAY, MAY 9 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.  A nurse will be available to check blood pressure and weights from 9-11.  Wii games are available. Kings in the corner begins at 9:30.  The chair YOGA class meets at ten-thirty. The art class meets at 12:00 PM.  Hand and Foot also meets at 12:00 noon.

          FRIDAY, MAY 10- Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am. Come in and join us as we celebrate Mother’s Day.  Bruce McPherson will be entertaining us.  We will have a discussion on “What your mother taught you and you were able to pass on to your children”.  We will honor special mothers. 

          MONDAY, MAY 13 – If you don’t like to eat breakfast alone, then join the early riser’s at the New Freedom Family Restaurant for breakfast and fellowship.  All are welcome.   In observance of “Older American’s Month” we will be “Showcasing” our center all week with special programs.  We invite everyone to stop in and check out all the exciting things the center has to offer.  Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am, she will give you a very good workout.  Jane Thomas will instruct a drawing art class after lunch. 

          TUESDAY, MAY 14 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.   We invite you to visit the center today to check out the arts, ceramics and crafts works that will be on display.  Beth from OSS will present a program on “Healthy Aging” at 10:30.  Table games and Wii Bowling will be available throughout the day.  Doug will be available after lunch to assist with computer issues.  Pinochle players meet at 12:00 PM. 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 15–- Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.  Table games will be played throughout the day.  Chef Deb Bixler will making various nutritional strawberry dishes for us to try.   Bridge Club meets at 12:00 PM.  The card party meets at one o’clock for some fun and socialization. 

THURSDAY, MAY 16– We start our day with a public breakfast of chipped beef, homefries, scrambled eggs, pancakes, and breakfast casserole with juice, coffee or tea, all for just $7.00.  Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.   Today you can get your blood pressure and weight checked by a nurse, if you so desire.  It is a free service.  Kings in the Corner will begin at 9:30 AM.  Chair YOGA class begins at 10:30 AM.  Art class meets at 12:00 PM.  Jane would be glad to talk to you about this class.  Wii games will be available throughout the day.  Hand and Foot games start at noon also. 

FRIDAY, MAY 17 – Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am. Bocce Ball will be played at 10:30.   After lunch bingo will be played.  If you have yard sale items, they may be dropped off today.  Please only bring things that would be sellable and not items that should be tossed.  We will be pricing the yard sale items after lunch and setting up for the Borough wide yard sale on Saturday. 

SATURDAY, May 18 – Come out and check all the treasures that are for sale during the borough wide yard sale.  Besides yard sale treasurers there will be baked goods and hot dogs available for purchase.  We will be selling raffle tickets for our upcoming raffle at the carnival.  Make sure you get your tickets as there are a lot of nice prizes to be given away.

MONDAY, MAY 20 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.    Today is movie day – “Mary Poppins” will be shown today.  Table games and Wii Bowling will be available throughout the day.   After lunch, Jane Thomas’s drawing class will meet. 

TUESDAY, MAY 21 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.   Visiting Angels will be sponsoring a Health Fair with twelve vendors participating.  Stop by and check out what they have to offer.   Doug will be available after lunch to assist with computer issues.  Table games and Wii Bowling will be available throughout the day.  Pinochle players meet at 12:00 PM.  Volunteers will be going to Manor Care to assist with bingo in the afternoon.  

WEDNESDAY, May 22 – Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.  Mary Ellen will be available to assist those needing help painting ceramics. If she doesn‘t have just the right piece for you, she will get it.  The Social girls will meet at 10:30.  The bridge club meets at noon. We are looking for some more bridge players, so if you would like to meet new friends and have an afternoon of relaxing fun playing cards, come on in and try your luck.   Wii and table games will be available throughout the day also.

THURSDAY, MAY 23 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.   A nurse will be available to check blood pressure and weights.  Kings in the Corner starts at 9:30.   Chair YOGA class begins at 10:30 AM.  Wii games will be available throughout the day.  Art class meets at 12:00 PM.  Hand and Foot starts at noon.

FRIDAY, MAY 24 – Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.   Bocce Ball will be played at 10:30.   After lunch bingo will be played.  

MONDAY, MAY 27 - The center will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day.

TUESDAY, MAY 28 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am. Today we will conclude our Showcase Month of the senior center with a Memorial Day picnic of grilled hot dogs and other picnic food.  There will be special entertainment by Rhonda Lee George also.   We will be serving ice cream and strawberries as a special treat after lunch.  Come join in the fun and help to welcome the summer.  Table games and Wii Bowling will be available throughout the day. Doug will be available after lunch to assist with computer issues.  Pinochle players meet at 12:00 PM.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 29 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.   YCAAA will be handing out Food Vouchers to those who qualify for them from 9:00 until 11:30 AM.  This is the only day they will be at our center so make sure you come in to pick your vouchers up.   Mary Ellen will be available to assist with painting ceramics. There is something for everyone to paint.  Table games will be played throughout the day.  Bridge Club meets at 12:00 PM. 

THURSDAY, MAY 30 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.  A nurse will be available to check blood pressure and weights.  Kings in the Corner starts at 9:30.  Chair YOGA class begins at 10:30 AM.  Wii games will be available throughout the day.  Art class meets at 12:00 PM.  Hand and Foot starts at noon.  The foot doctor will be available after lunch to perform routine foot care. 

FRIDAY, MAY 31 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall from 8:30 am – 9:30 am.  Bocce Ball will be played at 10:30.   After lunch bingo will be played. all.  HallH
