MAY 2018

        TUESDAY, MAY 1 – Stop by and pick up your copy of the May newsletter so you know what is going on this month.    May is Older Americans Month, with the theme “Engage at Every Age”.  Engage at Every Age emphasizes that you are never to old (or young) to take part in activities that can enrich your physical, mental and emotional well-being.  We invite everyone to come and visit us during May to see the various ways the seniors can inspire everyone.  Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.   The watercolor art class meets at 9:15 AM.  Wii and various table games will be available throughout the day.  We will be celebrating all the May birthdays with cake and ice cream.  Pinochle games begin at noon.  Doug will be available after lunch to assist with computer issues.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 2–Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.   Mary Ellen will have a large selection of ceramic pieces to paint.  The dietician will present a nutritional program – “Reducing Sodium and Fun with Herbs”.  Wii bowling will be available throughout the day.  The Bridge group will meet at 12:00 PM followed by the card party at 1:00 PM for some fun and socialization.  And they could use some more card and bridge players. 

THURSDAY, MAY 3 – Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.   Wii Bowling and table games will be available throughout the day also.   Bonnie will be available to check blood pressure and weights from 9 til 11 AM.  Kings in the Corner starts at 9:30. Tai Chi will start at 10:00 AM.  The art class meets at 12:00 PM.  Hand and Foot card game begins at 12:00 noon.

           FRIDAY, MAY 4 –Bocce Ball will be played at 10:30 am.  After lunch in preparation for the upcoming Kentucky Derby we will race our horses today.   May the best horse win!  We encourage all the ladies to wear their fancy hats to the races and maybe win a prize!                                                

           MONDAY, MAY 7 –If you don’t like to eat breakfast alone, then join the early riser’s at the New Freedom Family Restaurant for breakfast and fellowship.  All are welcome.   The shoppers will be heading to the Galleria for the latest fashions.   Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.  Wii and table games will be available throughout the day.  Reed will be available to give haircuts to those signed up. 

TUESDAY, MAY 8–Aerobics will be held in Fellowship Hall.  The watercolor art class meets at 9:15 AM.  Today is Hobby Day, so if you have a hobby that you would like to share with everyone, please bring it in and tell us all about it.  Table games will be available throughout the day.  After lunch Doug will be available to assist with computer issues.  Pinochle players meet at 12:00 PM. 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 9 –Aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.  Mary Ellen will be available to assist those needing help painting ceramics. If she doesn‘t have just the right piece for you, she will get it.  Michelle from Bellomo will present a program on “The nuts and bolts of Medicaid”.  The bridge club meets at noon. We are looking for some more bridge players, so if you would like to meet new friends and have an afternoon of relaxing fun playing cards, come on in and try your luck.   Wii and table games will be available throughout the day also. 

THURSDAY, MAY 10 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.  A nurse will be available to check blood pressure and weights from 9-11.     Wii games are available. Kings in the corner begins at 9:30. The Tai- Chi class meets at ten o’clock.  Becky will be here to give chair massages for a fee.  If you haven’t tried a massage, now is the time to give it a try.  It is so relaxing and makes you feel much better. Louise will lead her balance class at 9:45 am.   Lisa will be available to give us a demo on Yoga.  The art class meets at 12:00 PM.  Hand and Foot also meets at 12:00 noon.

           FRIDAY, MAY 11- Come in and join us as we celebrate Mother’s Day.  Bruce McPherson will be entertaining us.  We will have a discussion on “What your mother taught you and you were able to pass on to your children”.  We will honor special mothers.  After lunch, Donna Strine from Senior Life will provide an educational program on “To Carb or not to Carb”, followed by Bingo.      

           MONDAY, MAY 14 –In observance of “Older American’s Month” we will be “Showcasing” our center all week with special programs.  We invite everyone to stop in and check out all the exciting things the center has to offer.  Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall and she will give you a very good workout.  We will be kicking off “Older Americans Week” with a Wacky, Tacky Fashion Show” followed by a Tea Party.  The Board of Director’s will meet at 3:00 PM.

           TUESDAY, MAY 15 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall. The watercolor class meets at 9:15.  We invite you to visit the center today to check out the art works that will be on display and maybe sign up for the next session of watercolor class.   Table games and Wii Bowling will be available throughout the day.  Doug will be available after lunch to assist with computer issues.  Pinochle players meet at 12:00 PM. 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 16–- Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.  Mary Ellen will be available to assist with painting ceramics. Her class has room for more students so stop by and see how she keeps everyone busy.  There is something for everyone to paint.  Table games will be played throughout the day.  Belinda from Rabbit Transit will be here to talk about a new program with transportation at 10:45 AM.  Bridge Club meets at 12:00 PM.  The card party meets at one o’clock for some fun and socialization.  If you haven’t ordered your subs, please do so today as this is the deadline for ordering them.

THURSDAY, MAY 17 – We start our day with a public breakfast of chipped beef, homefries, scrambled eggs, pancakes, and breakfast casserole with juice, coffee or tea, all for just $7.00.   Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.    Today you can get your blood pressure and weight checked by a nurse, if you so desire.  It is a free service.  Kings in the Corner will begin at 9:30 AM.  The Tai- Chi class meets at ten o’clock.  Louise’s Balance Class starts at 9:45 am.  Art class meets at 12:00 PM.  Jane would be glad to talk to you about this class.  Wii games will be available throughout the day.  Hand and Foot games start at noon also. 

FRIDAY, MAY 18 –Aerobics will be held in Fellowship Hall.  Willy will be teaching a craft in the morning.  Bocce Ball will be played at 10:30.   After lunch bingo will be played and there will be several special prizes during the games.  If you have yard sale items, they may be dropped off today.  Please only bring things that would be sellable and not items that should be tossed.  We will be pricing the yard sale items after lunch and setting up for the Borough wide yard sale on Saturday. 

SATURDAY, May 19 – Come out and check all the treasures that are for sale during the borough wide yard sale.  Besides yard sale treasurers there will be baked goods and other food available for purchase.  We will be selling raffle tickets for our upcoming raffle at the carnival.  Make sure you get your tickets as there are a lot of nice prizes to be given away.

MONDAY, MAY 21 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.    Table games and Wii Bowling will be available throughout the day.  

TUESDAY, MAY 22 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall. The watercolor class meets at 9:15.  Doug will be available after lunch to assist with computer issues.  Table games and Wii Bowling will be available throughout the day.  Pinochle players meet at 12:00 PM.  Volunteers will be going to Manor Care to assist with bingo in the afternoon.

If she doesn‘t have just the right piece for you, she will get it.  The Red Hatters will meet at 10:30.  The bridge club meets at noon. We are looking for some more bridge players, so if you would like to meet new friends and have an afternoon of relaxing fun playing cards, come on in and try your luck.   Wii and table games will be available throughout the day also.

THURSDAY, MAY 24 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.  A nurse will be available to check blood pressure and weights.  Kings in the Corner starts at 9:30.  The Tai Chi class meets at 10:00 AM.  The Balance Class also meets at 9:45 AM.  Wii games will be available throughout the day.  Art class meets at 12:00 PM.  Hand and Foot starts at noon.

FRIDAY, MAY 25 – Today we will conclude our Showcase Month of the senior center with a Memorial Day picnic of grilled hot dogs and other picnic food. 
There will be special entertainment also.   We will be serving ice cream and strawberries as a special after lunch.  Come join in the fun and help to welcome the summer.

MONDAY, MAY 28 - The center will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day.

TUESDAY, MAY 29 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.  The watercolor class meets at 9:15. Table games and Wii Bowling will be available throughout the day. Doug will be available after lunch to assist with computer issues.  Pinochle players meet at 12:00 PM.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 30 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall. The Busy Bees will be starting early in the morning to make the subs for our fundraiser.  They will be available for pick up after 10:00 AM.   YCAAA will be handing out Food Vouchers to those who qualify for them from 9:00 until 11:30 AM.  This is the only day they will be at our center so make sure you can get them.   Mary Ellen will be available to assist with painting ceramics. There is something for everyone to paint.  Table games will be played throughout the day.  Bridge Club meets at 12:00 PM. 

THURSDAY, MAY 31 - Barb’s aerobics class meets in Fellowship Hall.  A nurse will be available to check blood pressure and weights.  Kings in the Corner starts at 9:30.  The Tai Chi class meets at 10:00 AM.  The Balance Class also meets at 9:45 AM.  Wii games will be available throughout the day.  Art class meets at 12:00 PM.  Hand and Foot starts at noon.
